Auspice Service

MAV offers an auspicing service to artists, creatives and groups from culturally diverse backgrounds. To auspice means to provide support to an individual or group who is seeking funds to undertake a project.

What is auspicing?

You may be wishing to apply to a grants program that will only accept applications from incorporated associations or organisations with specific legal status such as a Tax Concession Charity (TCC). Using MAV’s auspicing service allows you to access these grants programs and provides you with a range of support services to assist you to manage your grant, should you be successful.

Fees

Similar to other auspicing services, we have a fee schedule in place to support our operational costs. This fee is determined as a percentage of the project budget as follows:

    • Access to DGR and TCC status with the Australian Tax Office

    • Coverage for the funded project under MAV’s public liability insurance up to $20 million

    • Lodgement of funding applications and acquittal reports

    • One review meeting to check on progress of project

    • Processing of payments (via agreed payment schedule)

    • Communication liaison with funders

    • Yearly budgeting, including internal budgets and funding budgeting

Auspice Queries

To make sure we can best assist you and your project, it is important for us to discuss your auspice agreement. Ideally, we would like to hear from you at least two weeks prior to the submission deadline, otherwise we may not be able to auspice your project.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • To ‘auspice’ means to provide support to an individual or group who is seeking funds to undertake a project. The group or individual requiring support is known as the ‘auspicee’ and the organisation that auspices the group or individual is known as the ‘auspicor’.

    When using an auspice arrangement, we say that an individual or group is carrying out the project ‘under the auspices of’ the organisation – in this case, Multicultural Arts Victoria. The auspicor (MAV) receives funding or enters into agreements with funders on behalf of the auspicee.

  • Your project may need auspicing because you are an unincorporated group. As such, you may find that some funding bodies prefer to fund an incorporated legal entity (such as MAV) rather than a group of individuals.

    In addition, some funding bodies will only provide grants to organisations with charity status, which you are able to access via an auspicing agreement.

  • We charge a fee for auspicing your project to cover some of the costs to our organisation in providing this service. When calculating the fee, we try to keep our costs low, but also are realistic in identifying the types of services you may need to make your project a success. Our fee can range from 10 – 25% depending on the types of services you choose for your auspice agreement. Please refer to MAV’s auspice schedule for more information.

  • There are a number of auspicing organisations in the community. MAV provides a scaled approach to auspicing services so that individuals and groups can select from basic through to comprehensive support. Please refer to MAV’s auspice schedule for more information.

  • When MAV accepts to auspice your project, there are certain obligations on our part, and certain obligations on your part, as the auspice. We have an agreement so that we can be very clear about expectations on both parts. We need to have a signed agreement before we can submit any funding applications on your behalf, so please make sure you have allowed plenty of time to negotiate the agreement.

  • One of the key reasons that individuals and groups may seek an auspicing arrangement is to secure insurance to cover their activities. Public liability insurance protects you against financial loss if your actions have caused a person to be injured or killed, or a person's property to be damaged or destroyed as a result of engaging with your project.

  • MAV will not submit funding applications without an agreement, so please contact us least two weeks prior to your submission deadline to finalise your agreement.
